Go to to read the Feb 6 article by Nell Greenfieldboyce describing how "Carnivorous Plants Around the Globe Use Similar Deadly Tricks" to catch their prey. Of particular interest is the way in which geographically separated plants have evolved in similar ways.

Shown here, Pamela Mason's painting of the Purple Pitcher Plant (Sarracenia purpurea) appears in the BAEE book Native Plants of the Mid Atlantic. This plant is one of the few carnivorous plants found in North America.
